Open Studio Tuesdays again

It was Open Studio Tuesday at the  Belleville Library again today. This time the challenge was to paint  or draw your own interpretation of one of two black and white photographs by well-known county photographer Peggy de Witt. One was of an old broken down barn, and the other appeared to be the sandbanks near Picton. Most people opted for the barn picture as it was more interesting.
Methodology varied from a sepia toned acrylic painting, to watercolours with ink highlights, to painting with a palette knife. Everyones painting was quite unique!

I also took the opportunity to visit the "Expressions" show which was in the adjacent art gallery.
It was good as usual, although there appeared to be more paintings than anything else -not many sculptures or three dimensional works, and not many photographs are pieces of digital art. Abstract expressionism seemed to be the main art form at this show. Go and see it! It is a great place to purchase a good piece of art, as you know it has been rigorously juried by experts, who hopefully have good taste as well as an ability to spot a perfect piece of art.

Expressions show 2011

The opening of the Quinte Arts Council annual juried show "Expressions" will be held tomorrow, Thursday May 5th from 6-7.30 p.m at the John M. Parrott gallery. Refreshments provided.  I wont have anything there as I did not have any work I thought was good enough to enter this year, and I haven't been doing any of my felted fibre art -which usually is accepted. I really have no good excuses. However I will still go and see the show as it is always excellent and there is a very high standard of art work presented.
