Roberta Fisk

Well known area artist passed away recently at the grand old age of 93. Roberta was a founding member and teacher for the Roslin Art Group (RAG) in Ontario. She was a lovely, warm and lively person and a prolific painter. She also liked to draw with charcoal.

Many local people own her bright and cheerful landscapes of local scenery in Hastings County. She also liked to do still lifes and florals.

Just last year she had an exhibition at the Tweed Heritage Centre along with two other 90 somethings. One of the others, Winnifred Guttsell is also now no longer with us.

Roberta, we will miss you.

Plein air painting session

I am having a few people coming out to the farm to paint outside tomorrow, assuming the weather stays nice. There are lots of subjects apart from the barn. Flowers, trees, sheep, chickens, cats etc.
This is a black and white panting I did of some of our barns etc.   If anyone else want to come, please contact me.

Open Studio Tuesdays again

It was Open Studio Tuesday at the  Belleville Library again today. This time the challenge was to paint  or draw your own interpretation of one of two black and white photographs by well-known county photographer Peggy de Witt. One was of an old broken down barn, and the other appeared to be the sandbanks near Picton. Most people opted for the barn picture as it was more interesting.
Methodology varied from a sepia toned acrylic painting, to watercolours with ink highlights, to painting with a palette knife. Everyones painting was quite unique!

I also took the opportunity to visit the "Expressions" show which was in the adjacent art gallery.
It was good as usual, although there appeared to be more paintings than anything else -not many sculptures or three dimensional works, and not many photographs are pieces of digital art. Abstract expressionism seemed to be the main art form at this show. Go and see it! It is a great place to purchase a good piece of art, as you know it has been rigorously juried by experts, who hopefully have good taste as well as an ability to spot a perfect piece of art.
