Belleville Art Association Annual Juried Show

I went to the opening of the BAA annual juried show last night. The show runs for the rest of the month at the John M Parrott gallery, Pinnacle street, Belleville, Ontario.
I shared the Juror's choice award with Claudette Boulanger who did an amazing painting/drawing of a dinosaur being captured in a net by a lot of little people. My piece was a felted fibre art composition of pears in a bowl-quite boring in comparison. The title ofthe show was "Perspectives" so with my feeble attempt at humour, I labelled my picture "Pearspectives". Really bad, I know!

This painting is "Sunset Bay of Quinte" by Tina Osborne:

Other prize winners were Sharon Bower, Tina Osborne, Marg Ray, Jean Kapusta, Ilona Mayer and Dona Knudsen. I am sure I have left out a few more.
There was wine, cheese, fruit, and a vegetable tray which disappeared before I could get near it.
Quite a few people were present at the opening.  Even the mayor was there. He made the same faux pas as last year when he said he had paintings hanging in his office thanks to the BAA. Unfortunately, these were  courtesy of the Quinte Arts Council and not done by BAA members! People are always confusing the Arts Coucil with the Art Association. Guys, they are not the same thing!

"Small works" show

Belleville art association gallery at 392 Front St, Belleville, Ontario is hosting it's annual "small works" show which will run until just before Christmas.
The object of this show is to sell small paintings for $50 or less. A lot of them are $25 or less.
Half of the money goes to the artist and the other half is donated to the Christmas Sharing Program. This is a local organization run by volunteers, who give out Christmas food hampers, including a turkey, to five hundred or so needy families in the Quinte and Belleville area.

They have sold quite a few pieces already, so get down there and do a good deed-both for the artist and the charity! There are acrylics, watercolors and other media, all nicely framed.

Also check out the annual Christmas arts and crafts who at the Tweed Heritage Centre. Money raised goes to help the museum and gallery keep on going.

Belleville Art Association's renovated gallery

The Belleville Art Associations gallery at 392 Front Street has been extensively renovated. It looks much more professional and has lost it's former "clubhouse" look, even though the fireplace is still there. We have the latest thing in picture hanging systems thanks to generous donations by some of our members and friends. The lgihting is also much improved and there are new windows and more wallspace.

You are all welcome to attend the "Grand re-opening" which will take place on September 17th at 7-9 p.m. There will be an official ribbon cutting ceremony. It's free!

The show will be titled "Fall splendour".
The downtown fall Art Walk is on today and the gallery will be open until 8p.m

New show at the Belleville Art Association studio

We have a new show at the gallery/studio at 392 Front Street, Belleville, Ontario. Its one of the best ones so far! We change the show every month, and there is a theme. This month's theme is "Getting away", or paintings done while on vacations or travels.
The gallery in open 2-5 Tuesdays to Saturdays and is closed Sunday and Monday. Its free so come and visit us!

If you are an artist too, then you are welcome to join. There are membership forms available at the studio and it costs $50 a year to join, plus $10 if you want a website.

Here is the painting I have in the gallery in this show. It's my grandson going up a mountain in the ski lift at Banff. I know he looks like a girl, but that's the way he is!
