Madoc Art and Music Festival

The turn-out for the Madoc Art and Music festival was disappointing this year. Maybe it was because the music was rather 0ld-fashioned- more suited to aging baby boomers like me! Perhaps adding a little rap or new rock music would help to a attract some younger visitors.

And where were all the local Madoc townspeople? I suspect that most of them prefer sports to art, as the local skate board park is always full of people.

I did sell this 16 x 20ins painting "Country garden" to a couple from Brighton. Thank you.

I am not sure if this show will continue next year as two of the main organisers are moving away from the area.

Madoc Art and Music Festival

This coming weekend is the 3rd annual Madoc Art and Music Festival, the 19th and 20th June 10 a.m. to 10 p.m Saturday and 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday.
Come and see us and listen to some great music as well. It is in Kiwani Club Hall in Madoc. Entrance is free. There will be tents and a stage set up outside as well, so hopefully the weather will co-operate.

Madoc Music and Art Festival continued

Well, despite the rainy day on Saturday, the festival was attended by a lot more people than last year. Everyone seemed pleased with the new venue, although there was the usual problem of some vendors taking up more than their share of the allocated space.

The music was great, and not too loud! It ranged from gospel to bluegrass to classic pop.

There was barbecued beef or pork for lunch at very reasonable prices.

Some artists were very pleased with their sales and the positive comments about their art. Of note was young native artist A.J. VanDrie (see painting above) who sold a painting he was working on at the show before it was even finished! He also sold his biggest and most expensive piece at the show.

Back from Madoc Art and Music festival

As an exhibitor, it was quite a fun 4 days, but too long! I suggested to the organisers that it should only have been Friday evening, all day Saturday and half of Sunday.
It was a shame that so few people attended despite the lovely weather.
Saturday was a bit better and the music was terrific! The quality of the art work was mostly good as well.
A couple of vendors went home early and disgruntled. They thought the project was too ambitious for being held for the first time in the Madoc area. Perhaps it should have been in a a small park, closer to the downtown area, although they did get the drop in traffic from HWY 7 between Toronto and Ottawa, and some overnight campers. The local Madoc folk did not seem to be the ones attending. Maybe because it was too far for them to walk to. There is also another Art show in the market in a few weeks.

Madoc Art and Music Festival

Tomorrow I am off to Madoc to show my paintings and fibre art at the Madoc Art and Music Festival. It seems like a very ambitious project for the organisers as it is on for 4 days -Thurs July 3rd till Sunday July 6th.

It will be held at the Fair Grounds on Highway 62 just north of Madoc. Come and check it out. I will be in the Old School House.

World famous sculptor, Paul Sheir will be exhibiting, as well as David Crighton, a well known Toronto artist.
I will let you know if it was a success or not at a later date.
